ABOUT ME

My name is Jasmine! I’m 25, I live in Fall River and I work in Boston in the insurance business. My side hustle is teaching people how to paint wooden signs. I’m in the Liberal Arts program (part-time) with concentrations in PHL & ARH. Some of my favorite things to do include drinking coffee and starting DIY projects.

These are my children.  Maya is our one-year-old husky. Bindi is our five-year-old Tortoiseshell kitty. The stereotypes are true. Maya is obsessed with snow and loves to talk. Bindi is sweet & sassy. They both like to eat cheese and to Facetime with my parents.

  1. I can use the method of relating a point to current activists or movements.
  2. I don’t necessarily have to relate an argument to fictional characters, movies, series, etc.

ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE IN THE AREA

The New Bedford Harbor has a huge problem. It’s not new. The EPA has been monitoring it since the 80’s but is considered one of the worst sites in the country with PCB contamination.

This is a link to the Buzzards Bay National Estuary Program that gives some more information about the New Bedford Harbor contamination over the span of 30 years.

According to the site, “Approximately 18,000 acres of the New Bedford Harbor are highly contaminated with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and heavy metals, and have been designated a superfund site.” ( Buzzards Bay National Estuary Program)

Recently,  there was an article in SouthCoast Today about the negative effects of PCB’s on the thyroid which are found in the air/water in high concentrations around the Harbor and can be measured in the surrounding cities and towns.
